Rolex Explorer 2 / 1655 Mk1
not in stock

this is a Rolex Explorer 2, reference 1655, from 1972 in the very rare Mark 1 execution (serial 290xxxx). Only the earliest models feature the complete combination of a Mark-1 bezel (with numerals closer to the Plexiglass), straight hands, the thinner case, and the Mark-1 dial with a frog-foot crown. This example from early 1972 was worn as befits a true expedition tool watch and proudly displays the signs of wear from the past decades. Nevertheless, the dial and hands have remained in pristine condition thanks to the legendary Oyster case. The 7836 bracelet with integrated 380 lugs features a period-correct 3/71 engraving on the clasp. The Rolex 1570 automatic movement has been checked through and runs with precision and power. The “Freccione” comes with Argentine Rolex service records from 2001 and an extract from the “Watch Register.” It would be quite a tough challenge to find another such honest and original 1655 Mk1 in todays market.
