This is the extremely rare Heuer Carrera 1153 Chronomatic, the very first execution of the automatic carrera from 1969, introducing the brandnew and today iconic calibre 11. In 1969 only a handful of those Carrera´s (besides Autavia´s and Monaco´s) were produced before Heuer sold the name „Chronomatic“ to Breitling soon after. Every single example of them has the potential to be one of the big stars in a watch museum today. The lettering „Chronomatic“ disappeared from the Carrera dials, after being printed on only a very few examples and never came back. Also the „Carrera“ went up over onto the Heuer-logo in later models.
The original Chronomatic dial and the handset of this piece carry their original tritium and show some patina. The caliber 11 was checked through and is running exactly in all functions, not being in the need for a service currently. The sharp 38mm case shows both original numbers clearly. The originally engraved serialnumber 1473xx is fitting exactly into the short batch for Chronomatic dials. We ship the extremely rare Carrera with a black racing rubberband and a blue-white natostrap, also it comes in beautiful grey/black box in racinglook.
Please note:
After a research of Jeff Stein from Onthedash, this piece must have been built back to a today hystorical correct watch in 2019. Internal recordings from Mr. Stein show that the dial was also found in a case with different and later serialnumber before 2019. This means someone has rebuilt this watch with original and matching parts as a project, before putting it on auction. It was then sold as a „full original watch“over antiquorum auction in 2019. Screenshots can be delivered up on request.
Still all parts, currently being installed in this watch, must have been located in the Heuer factory at the watchmaker back then in 1969. Of course, the watchmaker only decides on the further history of the watch through its assembly. However in the case of this watch, a Heuer expert did this 50 years later by finding the correct parts from the same batch. Today, it is no longer possible to determine who disassembled and reassembled the original watch over the decades, or even why.
This watch may not have a particularly illustrious history, but it consists exclusively of original and matching parts that could theoretically have been assembled exactly like this in 1969. It is the only Carrera Chronomatic on the current world market, and only four or five other examples have appeared up to date.
